Hunger forces people to do unbelieveable

Source: Kantipur Daily (28 June)

One nepali was murdered and cooked in Qatar

It’s true! Four Asians land in jail for cannibalism

Source ::: The Peninsula

Doha • Four Asians have been rounded up and produced in a criminal court on charges of cannibalism. They are accused of killing a colleague, also an Asian, and devouring his body, reports Al Sharq.

Rumours had been circulating in the city about a crime where a human flesh had been cooked and eaten. This has been now confirmed.

This is the first such incident of its kind reported not just in Qatar but in the region, the daily said. It pointed out the quartet chose to eat the body of the deceased to hide the fact they had murdered him.

The incident came to light when one of the four accused suffered from severe reactions after eating human flesh and was subsequently rushed to the Emergency Department of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

Doctors attending to him sent him in for an X-ray. The result clearly showed the outline of a human finger in his stomach sending the doctors into a tizzy. They immediately gathered their wits about them and called in the police.

The hospitalised man was taken into custody and confessed to having eaten the flesh of a colleague along with his three cronies. His three accomplices were soon arrested and they admitted to having committed the crime.

The foursome was produced in a criminal court with the prosecution demanding that they be remanded to police custody for further interrogation. The court immediately acceded to the prosecution’s demand.

Legal circles said they presume the accused may be extensively interrogated to find if they had been involved in a similar crime here before.

Meanwhile, a report published recently by an Indian language daily published here identified the four accused as Vietnamese nationals and said their alleged victim was from Nepal. The daily, however, clarified the nationalities were based on rumours.

It is the sad news for all nepalese and vietnamese nationals. That destroys the long history of Asian harmony and friendship. Still the nationality of murdered person is not confirmed. You can find the audio news in nepali about this incident in www.mysansar.com

Entomology Excursion

Around 12 students and teachers, from TIF, orgnised excursion about entomology on June 23 here in Goettingen. The place is the strict nature reserve or protected area which is earlier used by German army is the training site.

There were Sea before 90 million years ago. At present we could see the see bed there. This is managed as the historic and natural site.

This area covers around 200 ha. of forests but managed well and people would like to go there during the weekend as the refreshing site.

In developing country forest is the place to go only for poor, no rich people would prefer to go there. But, in contrast to this, the rich people prefer to go there. What a difference between thinking !

The excursion was quite nice. We caught little bit insects. They range from butterfly, moths, beetle to spiders and so many.

Today, we found the Larix spp. Which is the only pinus
species which sheds leaves completely during winter. It can grow even in Siberia. Interessante ! There were some damage due to the bark beetle. They every fortnightly use to monitor the growth and infestation of insects, pests. When they find the infestation by bark beetle, they use to cut the tree and burn everything. The bark borer use to bore the bark and make channels inside.

Inside the forest, we could find one stone well, that was 15oo years old. That proves that there was the settlement before that period. At the end, we were offered nice cakes prepared by Dr. Sergio Angeli and we finished our excursions around 1 pm.

The protest to restore democracy in Myanmar

The innocent Myanmar child was supporting her mother to voice out their voice to restore democracy and release of Aung San Suukyi (the Nobel peace prize winner).

The Nobel prize winner Suukyi has been detained in Myanmar since long times by Army Junta. She has the popular support from inside and outside however still she is in Jail (house arrest) instead of rulling the country. She is all time heroic personality in present world among contemporary leader. She has been bearing all tolls and tears for the sake of all Myanmar people but the Army government are keeping her in house arrest and there is such a big suppression that no people can go to street to protest this anti human and anti social activities.

Mrs. Aung San SuuKyi is very popular in Nepal too. She has written two books about Nepal. One is the "Let's visit Nepal" and another is "Beautiful Nepal" We are really thankful to her and want her early release.

There are noone such a powerful in the world who could repress the voice for peace, prosperity, and democracy. We are quite sure on that one day will come in the history of Myanmar when the autocrat military ruler have to leave the chairs and bend on the feet of the people.
There is nothing unnatural to pose pressure on the Army Junta for restoring democracy in Myanmar. We all nepalese would like to extend our voice and heart to the freedom (peaceful) fighter of Myanmar.

DAAD meeting at Giessen

Post Doctorate, Doctorate and Master student in different subjects were participated. The participants were from almost all over the world. Only one person (me) was from Nepal. That really was really pity. But, more than 50 participants were from India and Pakistan.

At the first day, the programme was officially inaugurated by the Higher
Education Minister of Hessen.
He was quite vocal and motivated all to work hard and know the country. He further said that all the DAAD scholars are good will ambassador of the German.

There were question-answer sessions on the same day. The Secretary of DAAD replied the questions and grievances of the participants. Among the chief speaker of the first day were the president of Giessen University and the Mayor of Giessen Rathaus.

The Giessen university is the 400 years old university and more than 22 thousands students are currently studying there. The University was established on 1607 AD.

On the second day, there were lots of lectures in different subjects and they were quite fruitful. They organised the summer party at the renowned castle of Rohanhuassen (?).

It was quite nice and beautiful. Everything were quite good except we missed Asiatic food, especially rice, pulse and vegetable.

During the whole programme, they took care of even the minute thing. From meal to breakfast, from couselling to kinder care, they impresed all.

On the third day, we visited another City Marburg. It is the old city and quite beautiful. There is the famous university of Marburg which is also around 500 years old. What a long educational history ! They have maintained the historic buildings in the same conditions as it was in the past. Very beautiful and impressive city is the MARBURG.

We are very grateful to DAAD for providing this wonderful opportunity. We could experience the German cultures of pleasant hospitality and friendship. They are caring and daring for us. Danke schön fur alle.

Nepal's monarchy faces new threat

King Gyanendra
The king's future will be decided later
Parliament in Nepal has given itself the power to abolish the monarchy if King Gyanendra interferes in constituent elections due in November.

Parliament passed the constitutional amendment late on Wednesday. It requires a two-thirds majority to end the monarchy.

The king has become increasingly sidelined since being forced to restore parliamentary democracy last year.

Power to remove

"If the king is found to be creating any serious hurdles or planning a conspiracy to disrupt the special assembly election planned for November, the parliament now has the power to remove him," Parliamentary Speaker Subash Nemwang told the Associated Press news agency.

The king is no longer head of the army

Officials say that there are no plans at the moment to depose the king, whose future will be decided at a meeting of the special assembly after it is elected in November.

Experts say that parliament has given itself the power to remove him because of the possibility that he might want "to conspire" against the polls.

King Gyanendra relinquished his authoritarian powers in April 2006 after weeks of pro-democracy protests.

Since then he has lost most of his powers and is no longer head of the army. He is now seldom seen in public, and does not often go outside of his palace in Kathmandu.

The Shah dynasty has provided monarchs for Nepal for the last 238 years.

Forestry in Germany

Germany has very long history of forest management. However there rotation period is very long, they are managing the forest and getting quite a high benefits from it. There are very few tree species found in Germany. Around 50 -60 forest tree species exist here. But, the larger number of tress species (more than 200 ) in China and around 150 species in the USA are found in the same geography and climatic region. Before last Ice age (around 6000 years ago) also there were lots of tree species in Germany but due to Ice age and Alpes mountains restriction, many species disappeared.

In Germany mainly 4 species dominates the whole forestry. The first most is Norwegian Spruce (33%), Pine ( ca. 25%), Beech (14%) and Oak (10%). Among the exotic species are the Douglas fir is the major one. Other species found here are Maple (3 species, Acer palatinoides, Acer pseudoplatinoides, Acer species), Cherry tree (Prunus arbreum), Birch (Betula pendula), Black pine, Robinia pseudoacacia, Hedgel Nut, Horn bean etc. But there shares are very little.

Governments now focussing on to increase the broad leaved species whereas the private industry are opposing it because there most of machines and technology are based on coniferous species so they donot want to replace it towards broadleaved species.

In Germany, all the forest owner has the societal responsibility. They are not allowed to do whatever they like to do on their forest. They have to strictly follow the management prescriptions, and the governmental agencies use to provide the technical services to them. But this service are not free, they have to pay for this. Also, they monitor the activities implementing in the forest, they charge large penalty for non obliging the rules and management plan.

Each and every peace of forest land has well registered on data base systems. Anybody can find all the data of any forest. Even which forester had planted which tree could be found. More than 250 years of data are available. Quite interesting !

The largest tree in the world is Sequia deudram gigantica. This tree is still live in the USA and it is around 2700 years old. The tree has 11 meter diameter at breast height and 83 meter tall. Some of its branch have 2 meter diameter. The volume of that single tree is estimated around 1600 cubic meter. We can see the tree of same species planted in Goettingen 25 years ago (see the photo).

In Germany, they have already left the plantation activities. Now they are promoting and solely dependent on natural growth of the forest. Therefore, forest nursery owners are loosing the game.

Protests against G-8 Summit

Lots of protests going on here in Germany against the globalisation and exploitation of developed countries to poor countries. I personally agree the developed countries have not accorded with their voice of global poverty reduction, and natural conservation, climate changes etc.

Police are not behaving as the police of democrat country here in Germany. They are using water cannon, sudden raid and others to the peaceful protestant.
